All About Baby Carrier’s
For the first months of your baby (0-36 months) bone and brain development are very different. It is suggested by nursing specialists and orthopaedic experts to follow the recommended holding positions for Baby Carriers according to baby’s age and size.
Recommended positions for 0-36 months baby on a Baby Carrier:
- 0 to 3 months must be in a horizontal position.
- 3-36 months Kangaroo or Face to Face position.
- 6-36 months may be carried on your back.
The newborns’ neck and spine should always be protected when using a Baby Carrier. Their neck is very fragile so it is recommended to use the horizontal position with a soft support pad which can also protect the baby’s developing cervical spine. This support pad can also prevent baby’s head to be flat.
The baby’s thoracic and lumbar spine physiological bending hasn’t formed yet and it is fragile and unstable. A Baby Carrier must have a good support plate to hold the baby’s back and stabilise the spine but don't forget that it should be soft and breathable.
According to orthopaedic surgeons, maintaining an M-type sitting position is an important way to prevent O-type legs. A Baby Hip Seat with a 30 degrees angle may help prevent O-type condition that may cause joint deformity. A good Hip Seat with an oblique surface also prevents baby from falling and keeps them comfortable. As for the mother, it keeps the proximity of her body close to baby which helps the baby keep warm and gives a sort of bonding & connection between the two.
Like any other parents, you want the best for your baby. In order to do that, we must know their basic needs and body's physiology.
Baby sweat six times more than adults. Poor fabric quality has a great burden on a baby’s sensitive skin and can even cause allergic reactions specially during hot days. It is needed for a Baby Carrier to be high quality, has a good breathability fabric and superb design.
A polyester fabric is one of the most used fibre for Carriers. It has no wrinkles, it doesn't wear, don’t easily fade and reduce the incidence of skin allergies. A honeycomb designs with an air permeability of about 60mm/s can regulate baby’s body temperature.
Safety and comfort are the most important aspects when carrying a baby. A Baby Carriers belt must be filled with at least 3cm breathable sponge to enhance air circulation and have a soft cushion for the hip. This releases abdominal pressure while walking and reduces discomfort. A strong adhesive Velcro with a smooth surface is one characteristic a Baby Carriers’ belt must have. To prevent shoulder pain a shoulder strap equipped with a 3cm foam is needed and it serves as a shoulder buffer. A strong and tension resistant buckle secures and prevents the incidence of fall.
Good luck on choosing the best quality items for them!
